This Paralegal Specialist course explores the legal realities of America’s growing elderly population. Essential Elder Law topics, such as advance directives, guardianship and conservatorship issues, Medicaid and Medicare planning, long-term care planning, financial planning, end-of-life, discrimination and other family matters are studied. The Wills course covers the planning and administration of wills, trusts, and estates and trains students in the nuts and bolts of will drafting and administration. Further, practical tips addressing cultural and generational differences between young adults and the elderly are included.

Curriculum & Course Details

Convenient go-at-your-own-pace online format. No trips to campus. Each of these programs are designed to fit the lives of busy working professionals. Every participant is assigned their own judge mentor/facilitator. As long as participants have an internet connection, this program can be taken from anywhere in the world.

  • Go-at-your-own-pace format (access will be provided for 6 months).
  • Each Paralegal Specialty Certificate Program includes 2 required courses, and 1 elective course: Choose between Legal Ethics or eDiscovery (participants will be provided the option to choose their pathway and elective after registration).
  • The associated text offers students
    • Easy-to-read chapters that provide outlines, learning objectives, short case summaries, marginal definitions of terms, marginal cross-references to the Rules of Evidence, review questions, hypotheticals and exercises to assist students with comprehension.
    • Essential skills while focusing on the practical applications of the Federal Rules of Evidence and how the rules relate to paralegal practice.
    • Chapters featuring marginal definitions, fact scenarios illustrating the concepts, and questions about specific facts for the students to consider.
    • A variety of forms to help students understand processes and provide a ready reference.
  • Registered participants will have access to:

Who should enroll?

Successful participants in this program have achievement or experience in at least one of the following:

  • Completed their Paralegal Certificate
  • A degree in Paralegal Studies
  • Substantive experience (at least four years) as a Paralegal
