Overview

This course explores the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the field of project management. As project environments become increasingly complex and data-rich, AI offers powerful capabilities to enhance decision-making, automate tasks, predict outcomes, and manage risks more effectively. Students will gain a comprehensive understanding of how various AI techniques, including Machine Learning, Natural Language Processing, and Optimization, can be applied across the project lifecycle – from initiation and planning through execution, monitoring, control, and closure. Through lectures, case studies, discussions, and hands-on exercises, students will learn to identify opportunities for AI adoption, evaluate AI-powered PM tools, understand the associated challenges and ethical considerations, and develop strategies for implementing AI solutions in real-world project contexts.

Prerequisites: Basic understanding of project management principles and processes (e.g., completion of an introductory Project Management course or relevant professional experience). No prior AI programming experience is required, but a willingness to engage with technical concepts is essential.

Learning Objectives

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  • Explain the fundamental concepts of Artificial Intelligence and its relevance to modern project management.
  • Identify and describe key AI techniques (e.g., Machine Learning, NLP, Optimization) and their potential applications within different project management knowledge areas (scope, schedule, cost, risk, resources, etc.).
  • Analyze how AI can enhance specific project management processes, such as risk identification and analysis, predictive scheduling, resource optimization, and performance forecasting.
  • Evaluate the capabilities and limitations of current AI-powered project management tools and platforms.
  • Develop a component of an AI-driven project plan (e.g., an AI-enabled risk management plan, as per your assignment) for a given project scenario.
  • Discuss the challenges, ethical considerations, and implementation strategies associated with adopting AI in project management environments.
  • Assess the future trends and potential evolution of AI's role in project management.
